The argument is that private companies rather than municipal government must be in charge of city transportation. 1. Due to political reasons MG cannot raise fares or undertake cost-cutting measures. It is also implied that MG cannot cover costs and uses public funds to cover it 2. Contrast is offer...

Amitava, Better luck next time! There is a sense of Deja vu when I read your post. Seems like reading my experience with GMAT!! I too felt extremely confident on the Verbal section and was totally stunned when I saw my score. Im still unsure if it was SC, RC or CR that screwed me over. One of the mi...

unemployment can often occur more frequently in certain geographical regions in the country, instead of "spreading out" all over. Does this make sense? I hope this helps. The assumption Sharon makes is that unemployment cannot occur in geographically isolated areas. I would rate this as n...

Something I wanted to share...
I took my GMAT 3 weeks ago and was not too happy with the score. So decided to have another crack at it. Yesterday, I started my prep with OG11 Diagnostic test and what did I find??? An argument that appeared in my test!! Exactly the same, barring the proper nouns. Perhaps the question asked was dif...

Hi Thanks for your reply. Of course D is the correct answer but I didn't get it. What I understand is that the public perception is that drug addicts can find a job if they are willing to. Option D doesn't seem to be saying the same. It only compares the rate which is 15 times... Where am I wrong? ...

I would choose D Public perception: Homeless people are drug addicts who can get a job if they wanted to. There is a premise (fact), which states that 85% of homeless people are mentally ill. Therefore public perception is wrong. Choice D allows the public perception and the premise to be true at th...

Re: CR- Question-Very confusing
Most of the time we can predict the answer to this kind of question. In this case, the author introduces a new example (coal, oil, ores) to try to prove her point. We generally call this technique "arguing by analogy". Our prediction is "using an unrelated example that the author thi...

If x^y = 25 and x, y are integers there are two possibilities 25^1 and 5^2its_me07 wrote:plz post the OA
sankruth: we know 25=5^2 so if x^y=25 can we deduce the value of x ourselves as there is no inf given in st 1.
But the question stem mentions that x, y and z are greater than 1, so it must be 5^2

Im assuming it is 5^8 Simplifying the equation, you get (25/3).z = x^y Since x, y, z are integers greater than 1, x^y is also an integer. So (25/3).z is an integer St 1 z is prime Only z = 3 satisfies the condition, (25/3).z is an integer which gives x^y = 25 and x=5 SUFF St 2 x is prime. z must be ...

Re: Logic
A --> B is pronounced 'A implies B'. If A is true, then B must be true. In this case democracy functions well only if the electorate is moral. (D)emocracy --> (M)orality. In logic, if A --> B, then Not B --> Not A. Example: If it is raining, I will use an umbrella. R --> U. Therefore, if I am not u...

Please confirm if I have got the question right... Is Abs(A) + Abs(B) > Abs(A + B)? The only cases this is possible are when A and B have different signs. If A & B have the same sign both sides of the equation will be equal. St 1 A^2 > B^2 This statement reveals nothing about the sign of A &...

I would agree with Nidhs - B looks like the more appropriate answer.
D mentions 'high school students', which is outside the scope of the argument.
Can I ask the source of this question, because it is quite possible that OA is wrong.
