As I posted earlier, I disagree on your assessment of those constructions (although I do find them unusual - which is exactly why they were chosen to create a difficult problem!). They were all three taken from meticulously edited materials so I am not the only one who disagrees with your assessment...

I have to respectfully disagree with Ron’s previous post regarding this sentence correction problem. First, I encourage you all to VERY much trust the source of this problem. It is currently in the Veritas question bank as we collect difficulty data and establish statistical validity for questions...

You should be very careful on any GMAT sentence correction problem about applying rules that you believe are absolute. Sentence correction is an exercise in problem solving and leveraging differences in answer choices, not a rote regurgitation of memorized rules. In math, 2 + 2 is always 4, but in g...

Hi akg123, You bring up an excellent question from the O.G. that I often use with students to discuss these issues. It would seem that your example is correct much in the same way that "Nadal beat Federer in 5 sets, shocking the tennis world." is correct. A closer look, though, shows that ...

hi beatthegmatinsept, that is a question from the Veritas books - may have been an Official question previously as some were licensed from GMAC. in terms of difficulty, my experience working with 100s of students on that question is that it would be classified as difficult. No individual step is tha...

hi gmatmachoman - the primary difficulty of this problem lies in its length - there are many individual steps. As with many harder GMAT questions, do not get overwhelmed by the complexity of the problem. Break it down into digestible pieces and attack each one separately. step 1: determine volume of...

no worries gurpinder - the best way to avoid making mistakes on test day is to burn them into your brain in practice! obviously, you understand the concept and just rushed the problem. Good example of how important attention to detail and focus are on this damn test! It is valuable for everyone to s...

hi bkolibov/gurpinder: an official counting problem that sets a classic trap in the final step. gurpinder's work is perfect until the end where he makes the mistake of adding instead of multiplying. this is one of the most common traps that I have seen used by the test makers for these types of comb...

gmatmachoman, thanks for posting a great question for discussion. for this type of weaken question, try to identify the flaw in the argument before reading the answer choices. To do this, break the argument down into its premises and conclusion. Look carefully for gaps in logic or wording trickery (...

hi gmat_perfect - thanks for posting a great question for discussion. In any evaluate the argument question, it is best to focus on potential problems in the original argument. I think santoosar is confused because the idiom mentioned by kvpck - "So X as to Y" - is not in the correct answer E. Just want to make sure that everyone understands that, although kvpck is certainly correct about "So X as to Y" being idiomatic, it is a lesser used and tricky id...

If the OA is A then this is clearly a flawed question (but a good one when the flaw is removed!) - the question stem would have to tell you that M and N are non-negative integers as statement one is not sufficient if, for instance, M = -1 or -2. 1/10 + 5 is not divisible by 3 as kvpck pointed out! I...
