Can someone please elaborate on how to solve such problems?
I am not convinced with the explanation for 4 gallons as breaking up using the explanation gives 4 gallons of the mixture and not 2 as asked in the question.

"the length of the line segment" is the hypotenuse of the 45-45-90 triangle ... the legs of the right triqangle is 2 each so the hyp is root( 2^2+2^2) = 2sqrt(2).... How do you actually derive that to 2 as the value for the legs here??? Hypotenuse you could obtain from the two legs but how...

That was pretty much all about the question and I double verified the question!
Had I come across this question anyplace than GMAT prep I would have questioned the credibility of the source. But no such options either as this was from GMAT PREP and this was ALL the information that the question had:-|

With Q4:

Prob quotes 1/5 of the class are 4 yrs old or older.
