I don't think you need to say anything about being fired. What was your next job like? Was it a vertical jump? You could mention your desire for increased responsibility. If it was a lateral switch you can say you were looking to try a different career area. My next job (current job) is more of a l...

Fired from job - required to disclose?

Hi, I was 'let go' from my employment a few years ago - it wasn't for performance issues, but I wasn't "laid off" due to downsizing or economic reasons either. Let's just say that my work required me to pass certain levels of a professional accounting exam, and unfortunately I was unable t...

Why are US salaries so much higher than CDN salaries?

I've been looking through various MBA employment reports, and rankings, and it appears as though Canadian MBA programs (even the top-tier schools) churn out graduates with salaries much lower than those of their US counterparts. I'm not even talking about Top 10 US programs - more like those in the ...

How did you decide to move away from home/family to do MBA?

This is a bit of a random question, but thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone has any thoughts. I'm a Canadian contemplating moving to the US to do my MBA (and pursue employment opportunities afterwards). I'm very close with my family, and I think that's the biggest thing holding me back r...

Applying with strong GMAT/GPA but average work experience?

Hi there, I have a question regarding applications - I've seen a number of posts on here from applicants who have concerns with a low undergrad GPA, or a low GMAT score, and how that'll affect their applications. But I haven't seen much of the flip side - that is, someone with a relatively strong GM...

Best target schools for employment in NYC?

Hi all, So I'm looking to find employment (as an international student) in NYC upon post-MBA graduation. My question is, outside of the Top 8 US schools (H/S/W, Booth, Tuck, Sloan, Columbia, Kellogg) what are the target schools that typically send the most students/alumni to NYC post-grad? Obviously...

If you are planning on working in Canada right after b-school, go to a Canadian b-school unless it's a US top 8 (H/S/W, Kellogg, Sloan, Columbia, Booth, Tuck). 5+ years after graduation, where you went to b-school won't matter. Employers hire based on your experience, and it'll come down to the qua...

Is "where you do your MBA" only important right af

Hi everyone, I have a question regarding the relative value of "where" you do your MBA. I've heard that the most value the MBA brand (of your school) can provide is for the first job immediately after graduation, and after 5+ years out of MBA school, where you did your MBA won't matter muc...

How tough is it to find work in US as a CDN? US vs CDN MBA?

Hi all, I'm currently planning on going back to graduate school to pursue further studies (MBA) and I'm facing a dilemma that seems very common - whether to go for an MBA in Canada or one in the US. For comparison's sakes, let's hypothetically assume that I am realistically targeting Ivey/Rotman in ...

MBA programs with business law specialization?

Hi there, Just wondering - I've got a strong interest in business law and international corporate law. I was just wondering if there are any MBA programs (US/Cdn or overseas) that offer this kind of specialization, and if so which are the best known for this area? I would be very much interested in ...

MBA Interviews - do you book time off work?

Just a curious question (I haven't even applied to schools yet, but am very curious) - when you guys (and ladies) receive interviews from your prospective MBA schools, do you physically go to the campus for the scheduled interview? What if it's overseas, or at the very least an air flight away? Do y...

Thanks eskimoroll. So what you're saying is that when adcoms evaluate your candidacy (if, say in Round 1), do they look at your number of years of work experience "at matriculation", correct? And not at the number of years that you've had at the time of application?
