Studying from GMAT books published 2-3 years ago

Hello, A friend of mine that took the GMAT prep class in 2007 (offered by Kaplan) and test prep books published in 2007, offered to let me study from their GMAT prep books. Do you believe this will be helpful? Does the GMAT change dramatically from year to year? What would you recommend? Thanks, War...
