Answering last question on GMAT?

I have a quick question about completing the last question in either section of the GMAT (Verbal or Quant). I read somewhere that if you are on the last question, that you will have a chance to answer it even if time runs out. Is this valid? Does this mean that you could theoretically take as long a...

Post subject: Official Guide: Problem Solving - question #1

If anyone has their OG 12 book handy, I'd like to know if there is a shortcut to solving any problem related to #148 in the Problem Solving section (page 173). I get about half-way through the simplification/factoring of the initial formula, but then the "official answer" explains further ...

1/10^9 = 1*(1/10^9) correct? So if I factor 1/10^9 out ... I am left with 1 Take an eqn x+2xy If you factor out x you get x(1+2y) It's the same thing. Don't let the reciprocal fool you. Thank you,...I see now. What I didn't understand is that the factoring was at the first stage of the full (origin...

but I simply do not see where the "1" is coming from in the factoring.

How is the (1/10*9 x 1/10)

all of a sudden (1 - 1/10)

??

Adding & Subtracting Factors

I have come across this problem,... and after trying to analyze the author's answer, I can't figure out how he came up with one "break-down" of it. Before I post the answer, could someone else try it and let me know how they came up with the answer and perhaps the best way to approach addi...

Compound Interest

Hi all,... hope these help. The first is if you need to know what a final amount (balance) of an investment will be.

The other is if you know what the ending amount of the investment is now + where it began and what the compounded rate would be over a period of time.

Thanks for the update of the Flashcards, however, I have found something that has frustrated me for awhile and looks quite confusing on the cards... Regarding Mixtures & Dilutions: 1) In the lower-left card on page 76, you give the formula of how to solve these. 2) on the card directly to the ri...

I believe the is one "flashcard" directly from this site that mentions for DS questions that to solve for n unknown variables, you must have presented at least as many options to solve for that variable?? (perhaps I was missing the idea of this rule??) Other than than, wouldn't the easiest...

Thanks for the clarification,... this, again, is the premiere problem I am having (as I posted on another forum question).

I am always missing the point of finding out whether the possibilities are "sufficient" versus knowing the actual answer. I need to burn this in my brain.

confusing solution

is it A? stmt 1 alone is sufficient. since it's asking only the unit digit of n, then just looking at the unit digits: 243^x -->3^x 463^y -->3^y so from the two lines: 3^x*3^y = 3^(x+y) if x+y=7, we know thd unit digit of 3^7, so unit digit of n can be found stmt 2, we know x, but don't know y, so ...

DS confusion...

Hi guys, I've been starting this whole "GMAT" process for the past week or so, but I feel that this entire Data Sufficiency part is still throwing me for a loop. I think I am mainly confused about how to actually approach the questions and where to start. They give you the first equation. ...
