Thanks Danielle and good luck on the GMAT! When do you take the test? I think the application deadline is next Tuesday so I assume you're taking it pretty soon? You'll have to let me know how the application goes. If you make it then at least I won't be the only one in there with three kids :) And b...

640 in 4 weeks....good enough for me!

I began studying about 4 weeks ago using Kaplan. Then after reading these forums I picked up the OG 11 and the Quant Review. My verbal was pretty strong so I just wanted to concentrate on the quantitative. I did go through the verbal questions and studied some, but the vast majority of my time was s...

Just wanted to report that yesterday I took the 2nd test and scored a 660 on it. Although there were 3-4 questions that I had already seen I still did much better than previously. And today I took the real deal and scored a 640 so I was quite satisfied with that result.

GMATPrep - number line

This one seemed easy but apparently not. The only solution I can think of is in the wording. I answered 2/35 because that is the distance from one tick mark to the next. But since they technically said "between" any of the two tick marks does that mean they are looking for a point that wou...

GMATPrep - exponents again

I was able to solve this one just by plugging in numbers until I got a combination that worked but I'm wondering if there is an easier way.

GMATPrep - DS Geometry

I'm sure there is some property of congruent angles that I don't remember that would help me solve this one but I'll be darned if I know what it is.

Even after the explanation this one was hard so I want to write it out for anyone else struggling with it: 5^21 * 4^11 = 2 * 10^n 5^21 * 2^22 = 2 * 2^n * 5^n 5^21 * 2^22 = 2^n+1 * 5^n 2^n+1 / 2^22 * 5^n / 5^21 = 1 2^n+1-22 * 5^n-21 = 1 2^n-21 * 5^n-21 = 1 10^n-21 = 1 Now, since we know that anything...

How did you go from 5^21 * 4^11 to 5^21 * 2^22? Putting in my calculator I can see that 4^11 = 2^22 but I'm not sure why as it doesn't work with all numbers. For instance....ahhh...never mind. I was trying to divide the first number by 2, then multiply the exponent by 2 but that obviously wasn't wor...

For the record, I went back through the problems I missed and was able to solve all but three of them (two function questions and one geometry question) and I have posted those three on the forum for help. I did have to look up some information for a couple of them but for the most part my problem w...

Geometry question

How would I solve this one? I can't assume it's a right triangle even though angle ABC looks to be 90 degrees. I know A = 1/2 (bh) but I'm stuck trying to find the height.

Still trying to work this one... The part I can't seem to figure out is how to find the sum consecutive even integers. I know the sum of consecutive integers is the average times the number of terms but the even part is messing me up. Here is where I am... The average should be 100+2 / 2 = 51 The nu...

another function question

These function questions are killing me. Usually only see one on the prep test but it's always early :( Function h(n) is defined to be the sum of even integers from 2 to n, inclusive. If p is the smallest prime factor of h(100) + 1, then p is: a) between 2 and 10 b) between 10 and 20 c) between 20 a...

stuck on exponents

I hate exponents.... 5^21 x 4^11 = 2 x 10^n solve for n a) 11 b) 21 c) 22 d) 23 e) 32 I'm lost here. Since the bases are different ( 5 and 4) I don't know what I can do to simplify this. I suppose I could try to find the 21st power of 5 and the 11th power of 4 and do it the hard way but I'd be here ...

score tanked.....now what?

Wow, what an interesting day. I am scheduled to take the GMAT in 2 days (on Thursday) so I took this week off so I can do nothing but study. Quantitative has been my weak area so that is what I've been concentrating on (doing the problems in OG 11). I took the GMATPrep test #1 a few weeks ago and sc...
