y=mx+b Question: What is b? 1) m=3b - insufficient 2) x intercept =-1/3 - y intercept could be positive or negative depending on the slope of the line. Insufficient. Together: we have a point x intercept (-1/3,0), plug it into the y=mx+b equation: 0=m(-1/3)+b Using stmt 1--> 0=3b(-1/3)+b - we can so...

Sorry to hear about what happened to you gmat700plus. Stacy, tanks so much for the suggestions. I have noticed that when I took practice tests and wrote out the essays, i scored much lower than I did when I did not put time into essays. I guess that break is very important. Will try to use some of t...

IMO answer is B.
If we were to know that the same tranquilizer that's used on the rhinos also has the same effects (inhibits fertility) when used on other large mammals, then our conclusion that there is something in the tranquilizer that inhibits fertility would be true.

I learned in my GMAT class that in sentences like these, usually the GMAT tried to introduce new words that are better than those used in the original sentence. They introduce the new language so that the sentence might sound more concise than without the language. I had chosen B over E because I wa...

There is plenty of free material on the web that already covers that. Why would I pay $20 for that sheet?

I also think its B. The mayor's reasoning is that if he imposes the fee, the bus will be less expensive than the car, therefore people who are using cars will switch. But B tells us that these people are already paying more than the cost of the bus, if you include parking. Mayor's argument falls apa...

I think D is a trap. In the argument, we are told that the amount of insecticide needed per acre to control insect pests was only slightly lower so it doesn't matter how many acreage of cotton each type has, what matters is the comparative cost of the insecticide. IMO In evaluate the argument questi...

Re: sets
The best way is to draw two sets that intersect (see my attachment). It's easy to visualize that what you are looking for is the area outside of the intersection which is given by 30/400+30/400=3/20 400 people join the local gym. 60 people take aerobics, 60 people take yoga. Of these, 30 people take...

I was stuck between A and E as well, but chose E because of the fight with water claim. That showed that fire with fire (the disinformation) wasn't effective... thanks for the replies. actually i was in dilemma regarding option (A). option (E) seemed a bit "strong". moreover the author onl...

Re: Letter from chairman
By POE, I got to D. My explanations below. When I saw that it was an inference question, I approached it the same way I do in RC questions. in RC, you have to demonstrate that the information you are inferring is found somewhere in the passage. I think you are thinking of the weaken/strengthen type ...
