Hi ckal1052, I am not a prof admissions consultant but like you I've been researching universities, so here are my two cents: First, You have solid qualifications to get into any university, but unfortunately there are no guarantees as the admissions decision might very well be driven by other facto...

Are you saying that schools take advantage of applicants that show extra loyalty by not giving them scholarships they deserve? In my opinion an ED applicant who qualifies for a scholarship should have an advantage getting that scholarship BECAUSE he applied ED. Now thats the logic in my head, whethe...

I disagree with the last part: "scholarship should not matter to folks applying ED". While applying during an ED round shows dedication and clear preference for a certain program, it has nothing to do with the applicant's affordability. I'm sure there are many qualified applicants out ther...

Those are all valid points and at the end of the day it comes down to a personal choice. However, my question was really to understand that even after deciding to go to UT, why not stay on UCLA's list to see whether you got accepted or not for other reasons like: - To access whether the time you spe...

Thanks Brian.
On the other thread, you explain some of the reasons you found UT a better fit for you, but is there a reason why you withdrew from the UCLA wait-list before knowing whether you got admitted or not? i.e. didn't curiosity itch at all?

Control emotions, especially if you are trying to hit a high score. Unless you are a genius since birth, there is no doubt you will feel frustrated by feeling less and less confident as you proceed and eventually have to guess few questions (Q & V). Ridiculously easy questions will pop-up every ...

In case of top-schools, I personally believe that the GMAT score is a ticket to how strongly the adcom will consider your candidacy, and once you pass a certain threshold (e.g. 680 or so), they will move on to other factors of the application. The only way I see an adcom basing a decision on the GMA...

Thanks for clarifying Lisa!
So who would you advise to apply in an early round, i.e. what sort of criteria/qualifications would position an applicant at an advantage to apply early?
Thanks,
Sam

Early Decision Round
For the MBA programs that offer binding and non-binding early decision rounds, is that mini-round considered more competitive than Round 1? i.e. Will the school have a certain number of seats in mind to fill in with exceptional candidates that apply at an early stage? Who should consider applying to...

So true money9111! The reason I ask is because I always wonder which one of the following two scenarios is more likely to happen: 1) An applicant who uses prof consulting services gets a real advantage over other applicants (who might be more qualified but prepared the app themselves) and ends up wi...
