If X is a positive number less than 10, is Z greater than the average of X and 10? 1) On the number line, Z is closer to 10 than it is to X 2) Z=5X My answer is E but OA is A. How can A be the answer? If Z=9 ans X=8, Z is same as the average of X and 10 If Z=9 and X=6, Z is greater than the average ...

Let X be the toal students
# of students taking science = 40+1/3X
# of students taking physics = 1/4(40+1/3X)

Also 1/8 of all the students are taking physics = 1/8X

Therefore, 1/4(40+1/3X)=1/8X
Solve for X which is 240.

I will go with "C"

Hi! D is the correct answer. Since a tabletop is a square, let x be the length and width. After changes were made, the new area would be (x-1)*(x+2) (1) says that (x-1)*(x+2)=70 which is x^2+x-72=0 (x+9)(x-8 )= 0 x can be -9 or 8 but since length or width can't be negative x is 8 (sufficient) (2) sa...

(1) ax^4=a, x can be 1 or -1
when x is 1, ax^4 + ax^3 = a+b
but when x is -1, ax^4 + ax^3 = a-b

(2) bx^3=b, x can only be 1 thus ax^4+bx^3 is always a+b

Stmt.2 is also insuff.

Plug simple number
when x=1 and y=1
-1<1 satisfy the condition and y>0

when x=2 and y=-1
1<2 satisfy the condition but y<0

Even though you combine two condition y can be positive or negative
therefore the answer would be "E"

Hey Sam!

I think that even though we combine the two condition we have two value.

you mentioned ADCB.
What about ACDB

A is to the left of D and C is the mid-point, then distance between B and D is 1. Therefore, we have two value 1, and 17 even though we combine.
