[1] Assign Values

Employee = x
Owner = 3 Employee = 3x

[2] Plug in Values and Solve for x

10 Employees + 2 Owners = 48,000
10x + 2(3x) = 48,000
10x + 6x = 48,000
16x = 48,000
x = 3,000

[3] Solve for Owner

Owner = 3x
3(3,000) = 9,000

9,000 (Answer B)

[1] Translate Coordinates to X and Y

A point on a Cartesian plane always follows the (x, y) format.

For this problem, (0, 2) corresponds to an x value of 0 and a y value of 2.

[2] Plug X and Y Into Line Formula

2x + ky = 4

2(0) + k(2) = 4

0 + 2k = 4

k = 2

[1] Assign Test Values

Must follow rule: 1 < x < y < y

x = 2
y = 3
z = 4

[2] Plug In & Calculate

A. z(x + 1) -> 4(2 + 1) = 12
B. z(y + 1) -> 4( 3 + 1) = 16
C. x(y + z) -> 2(3 + 4) = 14
D. y(x + z) -> 3(2 + 4) = 18
E. z(x + y) -> 4(2 + 3) = 20

My Method

The simplest method for me was to just write out the numbers and count the zeros. $$(\frac{t}{1,000})^4 = \frac{t^4}{10^{12}}$$ If t = 3: $$\frac{81}{10^{12}}$$ 0.000 000 000 081 = 10 zeroes If t = 5: $$\frac{625}{10^{12}}$$ 0.000 000 000 625 = 9 zeroes If t = 9: $$\frac{6,561}{10^{12}}$$ 0.000 000 ...

This equation is solved by substituting -1 in for x. Also remember: a negative to an even power is positive; a negative to an odd power is negative. $$\frac{x^4-x^3+x^2}{\left(x-1\right)}=\frac{\left(-1\right)^4-\left(-1\right)^3+\left(-1\right)^2}{\left(-1\right)-1}=\frac{1-\left(-1\right)+1}{-2}=-...
