Re: GmatPrep 2
Q. If x-y>10, is x-y>x+y? 1. x = 8 2. y = -20 MSD The question can be rephrased as is y < 0? Statement 2 gives the value of y ... so St 1 is suff Statement 1 : x = 8 given x-y> 10 => 8-y>10 => -y > 2 => y < -2 => y is a negative integer y<0 So St 2 is also suff So IMO D

Pick numbers Stmt II sqrt(4x) is an integer 2*sqrt(x) is an integer x has to be an integer and a perfect square SUFF Choose A) There may be people like me who might think that what if sqrt(x) = 3.5 then 2 *3.5 = integer.. But sqrt (x) cannot be any decimal ending with "yyy.5" since x is a...

We can plug in numbers too for this ... But I try to avoid plugging in numbers because I fear that I might lose some special cases ... Given x is an integer Is sqrt (x) an integer? st 1 : sqrt (4x) is an integer sqrt (4x) = k , Where k is an integer => 4x = k^2 x= k^2 / 4 Since x is an integer => k^...

Re: What is the area of a triangle
1/2 Abs [ (x1-x2)(y2-y3) - (y1-y2)(x2-x3) ] Magic formula huh ? Sweat how do you derive this formula ? its one of the formulas to be learnt .. it takes into consideration matrices.. a 2X2 matrix 1/2 Absolute [ X1 - X2 X2- X3 Y1-Y2 y2-y3 ] use 2X 2 matrix and solve the above... Very handy formula......

Area of circle = Area of square ?
Does the area of square S equal the area of circle C?
1) THe diameter of circle C equals the length of a side of square S
2) The ratio of 2/3 the area of circle to 5/8 the area of square S is less than 1:1

2x-1 is odd => 2x is even
2x will be even only if x is an integer
2(1.5) = 3 (odd)
2(4.5) = 9 (odd)
So x must be an integer for 2x to be even

Re: Tough Kaplan
Is x odd? 1) 2x-1 is odd 2) x^3 is odd OA after some discussions please ... Source :Kaplan Never make assumptions! To get (B), one has to assume that x is an integer. However, we're never told that's the case. Is x odd? (1) 2x - 1 = odd 2x = even For 2x to be even, x could be an even or odd integer...

Explanation given in Kaplan: Statement 1 tells you that 2x-1 is odd . That is , 2x must be even since any number that is one more than an odd number must be even. Because 2x is even ,2x is 2 multiplied by an integer N . So 2x=2N. and x=N . THis means that N must be an integer. However , since any in...
