All thanks for the help. During my practice test I did plug answers in and reach the same conclusion but when I plugged fractions in, it didn't work out so well. If you try x=1/3 the first statement is no longer sufficient. 0 < |1/3| < |(1/3)-1| C would be closer to 1/3 than -2/3. No where in the pr...

Manhattan CAT DS Number Line Positive

Is the number x positive?

(1) On the number line, 0 is closer to x – 1 than to x.
(2) On the number line, 0 is closer to x than to x + 1.

The answer I find a bit confusing. Please answer and explain. I am confused by the description they gave.

OA A

Looks good to me (just starting out also). I would just work on getting to your point sooner in the beginning of the paragraphs. Specifically, in your intro, I would make the sentences less choppy and put the important information up front. You digest the prompt in the second sentence but may want t...

Schools with focus/dual degrees for Engineering/Tech?

All,

I have an engineering background and heard that Northwestern offers a dual Masters in Business and Engineering. Do you know if this is still true and other schools that offer similar dual degrees of technology/engineering focuses?

Thanks for any help or insight!

Marshelle

Can you please go into a bit more detail about why you can assum 3 throws? It seems confusing to me like you are using the information from Statement 1. I know you aren't, just don't understand the logic.

but arent' there an infinite number of points on a circle? I am confused as to why those points are the only ones that are integers. Integers must be whole numbers and in this case there are only 12 options. Think of just one section of this circle and it makes the problem a bit easier. If you thin...

Make sure to focus on what the problem is asking for and what you need to calculate the answer. In this case a calculation is not needed because you have all of the pieces to the puzzle. The more DS questions you do, the better and fast you can become and determining if you have enough information! ...

Thanks GMATGuruNY, How I thought about it was based on the information given in the 3rd paragraph, 5/6 are upgraded and 1/6 are not on how ever many senors there are per unit. I don't understand your third line item... Where in the question can we infer that? There is a satellite, it has 30 units, e...

Fractions & Ratios - Satellite Sensor

Hey Guys, Can you please help me understand the solution to this problem? A satellite is composed of 30 modular units, each of which is equipped with a set of sensors, some of which have been upgraded. Each unit contains the same number of non-upgraded sensors. If the number of non-upgraded sensors ...

The MGMAT Sentence Correction book mentioned that the right and wrong answer will not come down to comma placement. You should be able to find something else to differentiate between two answers to pick the correct one. Hope that helps!

The easiest way I am able to do these problems is by recording how the numbers change. If you write down the solution of each block with an arrow to the next equation it helps. Also, keeping a grid of what all variables are at each block helps. Maybe try numbering the blocks and then you can use tha...
