Factoring question
Can someone explain the reason behind why the following equation turns into this (x+5)(x-1)^2:
x(x-1)^2 +5(x-1)^2
I get that the coefficents are added into (x+5) but what exactly happens to (x-1)^2*(x-1)^2? Or am I not factoring it correctly?

"Since we're selling more standard tickets, THAT number has to be the bigger number. So, take the smaller number (V) and add 25% to it....
V + .25V = S
1.25V = S "
I dont understand the reason why we are having the tickets equal each other.

Lost re Word Problem Translation
I was doing the problem sets in the MGMAT: Word problems Chapter 1. On question 7, I'm having trouble figuring out the reasoning behind why the following sentence translates to 1.25V = S:
They sold 25% more Standard tickets than V.I.P. tickets.
In my mind, I see this as 1.25S+V=total tickets.

For those scoring 700+, question re process
I am currently scoring around 550 and one of the things I'd like to know is how those who are scoring 700+ think through a question.
I'd appreciate it if you can take me step by step through your thinking process when you see a question.
