I found a very interesting and efficient way of arriving at an answer to this. As z is the only distance number among x, y, and z, the answer should contain z. Rules out options D and E. As high-speed train would take lesser time than regular time, x should be less than y. Further, as our answer sho...

for all x >= 2, x! will be even (as 2 is a factor in the x!).
x! is odd only when x = 0 or 1 (so statement 1 is not sufficient)

There is a multitude of solutions to statement 2 so (stmt 2 is not sufficient)

combine both statements, x = 0 is the only answer. So solution is C

For every 3 terms, the middle term is the arithmetic mean (in the arithmetic progression), in a series of N numbers (including a and b), there would be (N - 2) arithmetic means between a and b. So, b should be a + 104 (as the common difference between two consecutive terms is 4 and b is 26th term af...

[quote="jitsy"]Thanks a lot! Really appreciate your detailed explanation. However, if you consider √2 and -√2 to be X and Y respectively, both statement 1) and statement 2) are satisfied [√2*(-√2) = -2 which is an integer and √2 + (-√2) = 0 which is also an integer]. And of cou...

Stmt 1: (not sufficient) 12u=8y+12 y = 3/2(u-1) can't conclude anything from this. If u is odd and not 1, we have a number greater than 1 If u is even, as (u-1) is odd, Y will be a fraction. so GCD should be 1 (experts, please correct me here)... Stmt 2: (sufficient) x = 12 (8z+1) y = 12 z for the a...

Squares of a number should always have one of these in Unit's place. (1,4,9,5,6) Good point, although 0 is missed in the above set. (Someone already pointed out this) If units is 0, even hundreds should be 0... (for numbers with units digit 0). Except when the number itself is 0... but in that case...

Stmt 1: x^2 is even integer (Sufficient) a) x is an integer, b) square of odd integer is odd c) square of even integer is even all three above being true, based on stmt 1, we can conclude that x is even Stmt 2: x/4 is an odd integer (Sufficient) x/4 is an integer 2(x/4) and 4(x/4) i.e. x will always...

Let H be height of the cylinder.

After 4 minutes:
Ï€9H-Ï€9d = (-16+48+24)Ï€ => 9H-9d = 56 -(1)
AFter 6 minues:
Ï€9H-Ï€9(d/3) = (-36+72+24)Ï€ => 9H-3d = 60 -(2)
3(2)-(1) => 27H-9d-(9H-9d) = 180-56 => 18H = 124 => H = 62/9

Hope it helps.

I gave my GMAT on 29-May-2013 and got a score of 710 (Q:49, V:37). I want to take that score up by about 40 to 50 points. I am confident that I can improve the Q score to 50/51. I seek inputs to improve my V score to 42. I am sorry to start a new topic. While reviewing my practice tests (before the ...
