Wat is the diff. b/w 'like' and 'as'

I am not able to find a sureshot guideline for when to use 'as' and when 'like'. In Manhattan sentence correction, an explaination is given for it. It says that if nouns are being compared 'like' is to be used. But when it is verb or adverb, 'as' has to be used and 'like' will be gramatically wrong ...

'put' is wrong because "putting the news coverage into perspective" is a modifier and not an another event of the sentence as "to discuss the disturbing events .. " and "to turn to a counselor or clergy .. " are. So no constriction to use the 'to' form for the sake of p...

Hi alpana_10, Use of 'that' and 'change' is often interchangeable and not the deciding factor generally for a sentence to be correct. Only difference between 'which' and 'that' is that former is used in a non-restrictive clause and latter in a restricitve one. By that way too, 'that' fits better in ...

A,D & E are wrong bcoz of using 'was' whch creates a subject verb disagreement while referring plural 'judgment and mutability of purpose'.

B use 'a natural outgrowth' (singular) which is not in sync with 'were'(plural) here.

C is the only choice left.

i didnt say it is right only because it uses 'weather' and not 'if'.. offcourse it doesnt has idiomatic flaws as other sentences have. but it is right answer and has 'weather' used in it without explicitly mentioning the second option of the condition. so i wanted to say that at many places they hav...
