Hi Amy, You are pretty close with this one. The idea here is that in 1992 the lobster pirates started stealing lobsters from the waters of Belukia. Fast forward to 1996 and even though the LEGAL harvesters are working just as hard as always they got 9000 tons less lobster. So the author concluded th...

Just for fun take a look at the explanation for SC #12 in OG 13. It basically says that SC questions are not decided based on the choice of using which for a restrictive clause. I would post it but I'm not sure what the rules are.

Hi, I bet that you are absolutely correct about the official stance of GMAC on the use which. In general though, that distinction (whether which can be used in a restrictive clause) will not be the deciding factor in a GMAT SC and neither will comma placement. Your time is better spent developing th...

Hi, You're welcome! Understood. My general thought on this is that you may be getting so technical that you are convincing yourself to a wrong answer. My main point with my post is that the issue that you were asking about was not the biggest issue with the choice that you were defending. So that ev...

Hi Rajat, Choice D does create the idea that the tomatoes appear less appetizing because they were grown from seeds. The sentence should be creating a contrast that although they appear less appetizing they are very tasty. But let's assume that you are correct in your analysis of the beginning of th...

Hi, So there are a few issues here: 1. Misplaced modifier - who was digging? The scientists! So A and B are out 2. Clarity - D/E are wordy and passive. Also in D/E what does "that" refer to? Your concern about the missing was. What about these sentences: My parents have found evidence that...

Hi, In general, the GMAT SC is NOT testing comma placement. The big issues in this question are: Pronouns: Its v. Their Word Choice: Cycle v. Cycles In english grammar "which" can be used for restrictive AND non-restrictive clauses. "That" is used for restrictive clauses. If the ...

Hi Varun,
That is a lot of questions. Always balance "simulated" questions with "real" questions from the variety of resources available from GMAC. Two essentials are the Official Guide 13 and the GMATPrep CAT.

Hi, A great way to do these types of questions is to set up a a few inequalities and then add them together. For roots that you do not know take the perfect root below the number and the perfect root above the number to create the range. 2 + 1<x<2 + 1<x<2 = m Then add them together and 4<m<6 . This ...
