Thanks, yes that approach I'm familiar with. Though I'm wondering why the problem cannot be solved using the indirect approach as mentioned in my post.
Any insight into this?

Probability Q: Why doesn't 1-P(not happens) not work here?
Hi, while answering the following question, I took the approach of using the 1-P(of picking a nickel on both occasions) so 1-(6/15*5/14) but it appears this is not a correct approach or alternative to the usual response to the below of 9/15*8/14. Can you help explain why my first tried technique doe...

OK, So the logic would be that if both angles are less than 90 and we are given info that x>y, then we can determine that the line segment PQ is shorter than SR. However, if we only have info in answer B that basically tells us what both add up to but not which angle is greater among the two, it's i...

It's one of the GMAC practice tests. Here is camera shot showing that Answer A is the correct answer - solution 1 being sufficient.

Excellent, thanks Mitch. Now the light bulb has switched on - I was missing that second step in each testing of the answers.

DS integer properties: all possibilities eliminated?
Hi again, there will be another couple of postings and thanks in advance for sharing your approaches on these questions. The question in this instances asks: If P is a positive integer, what is P? 1) p/4 is a prime number 2) p is divisible by 3 I could easily rule out answers ADB, but I wasn't sure ...

Data Sufficient Geometry Question - advice to tackle
Am seeking your help with the following, thanks! I am given two parallel lines as in the image I have attached. PS being parallel to QR. The question asks whether the line segment PQ is smaller in length than the line segment SR. Two angles are given and I see that y is also at angle PSR by deductio...

Seeking help with f(x) question. Thanks!
Question asks: For which of the following functions of f is f(x) = f(1-x) for all values of x? a) f(x)=1-x b) f(x) = 1-x2 (x squared) c) f(x) x2 - (1-x)2 (in both instances the value of 2 represents the number squared) d) f(x) = x2 (1-x)2 (again 2 means squared here) e) f(x) = x/1-x The answer is D....

GMAT Prep Practice Test - solutions do not appear in review
Hi, is there a way to see the solutions to incorrect questions after taking the GMAT Prep Practice test. I was convinced there was a way to do this in a previous version of the software I had downloaded. In this new version, I cannot even get back in to the test and view the questions after I have r...

Solving 3 equations, 3 variables by the ELIMINATION METHOD?
Hi, I'm trying out different methods to solve this. Substition is fine, but getting stuck with the elimination method on this one to solve for w, x and y:
w-2x+3y=13
2w+x-4y=-14
3w-x-2y=8
Can you please help in explaining how we do this for 3 equations?
Thanks

Thanks for the quick reactions. Iceman, Gander, thanks for the confirmation of the rule. Exactly my understanding but was thrown off that the OG explanation included the 12.5 and 295 which made me doubt the rounding rule. Your responses help clarify the inclusion of boundaries.

Q142 Quant Problem Solving OG 13th Edition
Hi, I understand how to go about this problem but one thing still boggles me. I'm trying to figure out why 295 would be possible to round up to 290 to the nearest 10th as I would assume 295 falls closer to 300, or does that not qualify as nearest 10th? Same thing for the gallons story, where 12.5 wo...

digvijayk - excellent advice! I agree that it's the psychology of the exam and the excess studying that led to disaster. Great advice from Ron also on the timing. I'm familiar with his videos - in fact I used quite a lot of his stuff in my study, though I didn't see the timing video which I'll be su...
