akpareek... Are they traveling in the same direction or opposite direction? If opposite direction: Sb = 4m/s Therefore, B will cover 40 m in 10 sec. Remaining distance = 100-40 = 60 m. Sa = 2 m/s Since, they are traveling in opposite direction, we can add their speeds Sab = 4+2 = 6 m/s Tab = 60/6 = ...

Given that the percentages are all multiples of 10, when the correct answer is added to 119 -- the total number of students in the band -- the resulting sum almost certainly will be a multiple of 10. Thus, the most likely answer choice is B. Nice tip and could be extremely handy when you don't have...

yea, good point...you can get stuck in endless calculations which might take forever in GMAT to calculate 207/1.15. I realized this and then used second method - substituting the answers and luckily 12 (first easy number) worked out perfectly. But, I agree, fractions work better / quicker in this ca...

Finance Majors/Non-Finance Majors - Overlapping Set Question

I have been a big fan of double matrix method, it simplifies any overlapping set problem (ensure columns need to be mutually exclusive - many thanks to Brent for patiently explaining this) I set my table this way (since we are given that the gender distribution for F and Non F is same - easier to vi...

Thanks Mitch... your approach simplifies the solution and lot less to compute.

My approach was a bit lengthy:
2x3x5x7x11x13x17x19

=> 2x5 x 3x7 x 11x13 x 17x19
=> 10 x 2x10 x 143 x ~17x20
=> 10 x 2x10 x ~14x10 x ~3x100
=> 10 x 10 x 10 x 100 x 2x14x3
=> 10^5 x ~100
=> 10^7

Thanks T... Please let me know if I am summarizing / generalizing it right for such problems in the future: If there is no explicit comparison in the argument, abstain from choosing that as an answer (it would be the last choice). Select a statement even though it is more general (as the first optio...

C My analysis: 1. due to (caused by) is correct in this case. So, focused on A and C 2. has / have - since share is singular, it should be has, so C Now, between B, D and E - just a quick check: B. missing "has" - apple's share has declined / samsung's share has increased - so incorrect D...

g(2) = 6 (substituting x = 2 in the given equation) Therefore, 1/g(2) * 1/g(x) = 1 / 6 * (x-1) / (x^2 + 2) = (x-1) / (6*(x^2 + 2)) Remember that both are reciprocals of the original equation. I think that's the only catch. (Another method is compute g(2)*g(x) = 6 * given function and take reciprocal...

Lesson learned: If the problem is too easy (solvable within 20 secs), then need to slow down just a bit and re-evaluate the solution.
