Thanks for the explanation Stuart. As I was typing my take on the question, I did think that my explanation was too simple for a DS question. It's good to have someone around to give right directions.

my take on this

Stmt one just mentions that X < 8/9. It could be a range of values below 8/9. It does not give us one definite value for X

Stmt 2 does the exact same thing for Y.

Both stmts together also don't help in determining a definite value for X or Y. Hence E is the correct answer.

An easier method - just need confirmation on method

I had this problem on GMAT prep and got it wrong too. After going through all your replies, I tried it another way. Just need confirmation if this method is correct. According to the Question 5/x > 3/80 => now try ans choices => 5/134 > 3/80 cross mutliply => 5 * 80 > 134 * 3 => 400 > 402 not the ri...

GMAT Prep - Arithmetic Sequence

In the arithmetic sequence t1,t2,t3,......tn......, t1 = 23 and tn = tn-1 - 3 for each n>1. What is the value of n when tn = -4

1) -1
2) 7
3) 10
4) 14
5) 20

Correct ans is 3) 10

Please shed some light on this problem. Thanks.
