From the question stem and first statement, we can deduce that x is an integer and it is odd. Zero is not an odd integer; it is an even integer.

Got hammered on first attempt - 540 (Q41, V23)
Started studying for GMAT in October 2011 and had thought then that I would take the exam in January 2012. However, due to some unforeseen events, could not get myself prepared for January 2012.
