Hi wied81, Great question!! But I could figure out a simple way to solve this.. :) Here is the explanation.. We know that there are 7 numbers with mean =68 and median=84. Lets arrange the numbers in decreasing order.. (4*X+14), A, B, (84), C, D, (X) Now since 84 is median and 68 is mean- (4*x+14) >=...

I think its a simple question..
Just take 2^(x-2) out and you have
2^(x-2)* 3= 3*2^13
=>x=15
Hope it helps!!

IMO
[E]
This question is an easy one if you know the concept that for two positive numbers x and y if x>y then x^n may not be > y.. this is true if x& y are less than 1 because if a number is <1 then taking its power >1 will always decrease it. eg. .5 > .4 but .5^2 = .25 <.4 T...

IMO
[C]
. Lets analyze, (x-y)^4 ? (1) The product of x and y is 7. -There are several values of x & y possible for which the product is 7... (1,7) (1/7,49) etc.. all of these will result in a different (x-y)^4.. NOT SUFF. (2) x and y are integers. -This alone is obviously NOT S...

Interesting question. In equations of the form ax + by = c, if c is an integral multiple of both 'a' and 'b', then such an equation will have atleast one pair of integral solution. Case I: If c is the LCM of a and b, then the equation will have exactly one pair of integral solution (Unique solution...

As the divisibility rule states- "if the last 3 digits of a number are divisible by 8, so is the entire number", so when the greatest integer is divided by 1000 then the remainder should be divisible by 8. (a) 12 - not divisible by 8 (b) 21 - not divisible (c) 102 - not divisible (d) 120 ...

Hi Shalabh, I'm not too sure if the question is within the scope of GMAT but then I see no reason why it shouldn't be analyzed :) In GMAT, or any other exam for that matter, one must restrict himself to the purview of information divulged by question. So, if in GMAT it says- 'If Messy scores goals t...

I think each statement is enough. Hi jrakhe, Total population of T = 20,000 Total males = 8,000. Total females = 12,000 Let number of males born in town T = M Let number of females born in town T = F Now, for two variables we will need two *distinct* equations. Lets examine.. 1) The number of femal...
