Hi all, I came across a McKinsey job posting forwarded to me just now for fresh college graduates. According to the post, they have this general theme of hiring advanced professional degree (APD) holders. However, they specifically list that they are looking for talented APD, non-MBA holders. Why is...

careers after b school

Hi all, I am wondering whether there is a thread or forum category dedicated to exploring the types of jobs that MBA graduates can pursue. Perhaps also a gathering of what prospective students intend to do (or concentrate in) once they are in b school, and why as a result they may choose one school ...

GMAT 690

Just took my GMAT today in San Francisco. Scored a 690. Not particularly thrilled about the score but at least it's not a terrible score. This is the second time I took this test and last time I scored a 660, which was below what I was getting in the practice tests. Anyway, here are some my practice...

Hi Ian, Thanks for your explanation. I understand my mistake now. I drew out what you described. At least with this drawing that I can see that I only considered the first (top) case, where I assumed the height of the triangle would split AC into two segments, one having a length of x and the other ...

MGMAT Question Bank Geometry: 20

Hi all, I came across question number 20 in the geometry question bank section and would like to see if my analysis is correct. Below is the question: What is the length of segment BC? (1) Angle ABC is 90 degrees. (2) The area of the triangle is 30. In the diagram, there is a triangle ABC, with side...

kaplan CAT 2 Verbal Question #8 (CR)

Hi all, Today I took Kaplan's GMAT premiere program 2008 CAT 2 and came across this CR question that I think is a bit odd. I want to see what everyone thinks about this question: Congress is considering a "National Service" program under which high school graduates who need federal assista...

Kaplan GMAT 800 SC

Hi all, I came across this sentence correction problem on a 2007 edition of Kaplan's GMAT 800 guide book and when to see what everyone thinks about this problem: 32) That pollution harms the environment is self-evident; that immediate government action to combat it is merited by the situation is a m...

I agree that the comma (",") shouldn't be there. I was deciding between choice b and choice d, and opted for b when I answered the question, primarily due to the comma.

Hi AJ, The correct answer according to the OG is choice D. I suppose none of these "sudden fluctuations" can change the measured strain across a fault zone or vary the electrical properties of underground rocks. Hence, these phenomena are examples of the fluctuations. They do not describe ...

OG Verbal Review SC #82

Hi all, I am revisiting the OG verbal guide and noticed that there appears to be a typo: #82) Geologists believe that the warning signs for a major earthquake may include sudden fluctuations in local seismic activity, tilting, and other deformations of the Earth's crust, changing the measured strain...

hi all, i read this thread and am still confused about the answer. actually i agree that choice (a) is most relevant to the subject at hand. however, i fail to see that this is an assumption that the author makes in order to draw the conclusion. to me, the number of people receiving special programm...

Nature of CAT

Hi all, A thought just came to my head yesterday. Is it possible to get a decent score on the GMAT by purposely guessing/skipping a chunk of questions in the beginning and answering everything else correctly? With the spirit of the GMAT being that it can reveal your true abilities by selecting quest...

i have a problem with the answer choice D.

Can't X be negative? If X=-16, then X+7=-9, which i believe is divisible by 9.

A negative two-digit number is still a two-digit number right?

I posted this on MGMAT forum earlier but haven't gotten a response yet.

thanks a bunch
