"Good" weaknesses
So, my recommender has asked for suggestions on what to write about in the "3 weaknesses" section of his form. I've given him some suggestions for "constructive criticism" points that would be aligned with my essays - you know, things that can be readily fixed by an MBA program, ...

Hm, OK, thanks.
There's been all sorts of crazy allegations floating around on the web about them, and some lawsuits filed, but honestly I don't know where things stand (as it's been a while since I left and they're very under-the-carpet). Probably best not to draw attention to it.

Reason for leaving (a shady operation...)
So, what's a faut-pas in this section? Would it be frowned upon if I said the truth about leaving because the co I was at was a black-box and I was concerned about it being legit? (Or, as I put it in my "reason for leaving" section, it "lacked transparency, questions were discouraged,...

Yes! GMAT sends past scores only: specifically ALL scores from the past 5 years. It does not resend scores just because you retook the test. If you retook and have a better score, you have to send again. Really? I asked mba.com and they told me the schools see ALL scores from the past 5 years, mean...

Career gaps essay
A bit stumped by the Haas Supplemental Information section. What's the expected format here? Two of the five sections specifically ask for a list - clear enough. But for the career gaps question, I assume this can be in essay format, correct? There's no word limited specified. I actually have a lot ...

Question re. GMAT scoring
I noticed several people on the various MBA/ GMAT forums with the same Quant and Verbal scores as mine, but a 10-point differential in the overall score. I then plugged my Q and V scores into the calculator at http://www.800score.com/score2.html and this, too, produced a total score 10 points higher...

Well, you see, that's just the issue. I chose to do the CFA rather than, say, some additional stats class because it's just a far more rigorous program and far more professionally useful than a random stats or accounting class. I can say with full conviction that no 4th year finance class (some join...

CFA and its value to admission process
I'm wondering how adcoms look at the CFA designation. I have the full charter, and am wondering whether adcoms would take it seriously as a supplement to my GPA. My GPA's not bad, mind you, but I could use some extra points on the quant side. Given the time and dedication it takes to get the CFA, I'...

Another resume question (thanks for all the feedback so far, BTW!) I have 2 instances in my career where I was on a 3-month garden leave following a job. What should I put on my CV as an "end date"? The actual last day at the office, or the end of garden leave period? If I use the actual l...

Right, thanks. How about website addresses on the CV? Some AdCom panellists specifically told me to put the company/ community organization website under the company name (or alternatively, selectively include them in individual bullet points) Others said that’s unprofessional, and unnecessary (if...

Resume lingo
Is it OK to use abbreviations such as PE, VC, DD, IM, SPA, etc. on your resume for MBA admission purposes? Clearly I use those terms when applying for finance jobs (spelling out Private Equity would be a little amateur!), but given the AdCom audience - who can not necessarily be expected to have a f...

On your "main concern" - you should know that ECs aren't really all that important, particularly from college days. [...] ECs are not usually proper material to cover in an optional essay. Thanks for that guys, all good stuff. I shall add Columbia to my research list. Essaysnark, I assume...

Profile eval'n - finance/ entertainment; 710GMAT/ 3.5GPA
GMAT: 710 (Q47, V41, AWA6; I did it 3 times and scores were 710/690/710) GPA: Overall 3.46 from top Canadian uni, finance major (3.8 in the first year, then I lost interest and it dipped to as low as 2.7 in one term... I fast-tracked through a 4 year program though, doing it in 3 years, and taking 1...
