What is the value of x? (1) x^2 = 16 (2) x + 1 = 4 Lets start solving from statement 2.. it explicitly gives the value of x as 3..Hence sufficient. Statement (1).. Consider this example. What is the value of x? (1) x+1= 4 (2) x^2 - 5x + 6 = 0 Here, we can see that statement 1 is sufficient (since x=3) If we plug x=3 into statement 2, we see that it is a solution here, but this doesn't tell us anything about whether or not statement 2 is sufficient since equat...

For example, let's say that we are asked to determine the value of x. If this were the case, you would never see the following statements: (1) x+2=5 (2) x-3=7 In one case x=3, and in the other case x=10 As such, these contradicting statements would never appear in an actual GMAT question. Cheers, B...

draw a table with one grid for L & B (horizontally) and like & dislike vertically.. just fill in.. You can see that once we get the total no of ppl.. grid gets solved .. So if ever any choice is telling about any number then it gets solved as we can deduct total from it.. Both choices suffice.
