Let's call rate of 1 Man = Rm and rate of 1 Woman = Rw We know, Rate * Time = Work Here, 3Rm (43) = 1 and 4Rw (43) = 1 So, Rm = 1 / (3 * 43) and Rw = 1 / (4 * 43) Combined rate of 7 Men = 7 / (3 * 43) Combined rate of 5 Women = 5 / (3 * 43) So combined rate of 7 men and 5 women, Rc = 7 / (3 * 43) + ...

stmnt 1: insuff as you do not know the relation between r1 and r2 stmnt 2: insuff as you do not know the relation between p1 and p2 together, since p1 > p2 and r2 > r1 therefore p1r2 > p2r1 (population and representation cant be negative and both inequalities face the same direction so multiply dire...

Answer: 300. Now, I am not sure if there is any formula for this problem. Here's how I did it. I took a much smaller sample space. 4 lines. if no 2 lines are parallel and no 3 lines are concurrent then every line is intersected at 3 points. so for 4 lines, total points of intersection are 4 * 3. But...

IMO E
Together,

case I:

1,2,3,....20,Ed, 22,23,24,25,26, Pam, 28,....(next 20) Total: 47

Case II:

1,2,3,....14, Pam, 16, 17,18,19,20, Ed, 22,23,24,25,...35: Total: 35

Two answers. Hence, insufficient.

Hope this helps.

IMO A Interest in asteroid Schiela has increased, ever since observations by the University of Arizona’s Catalina Sky Survey have revealed that the asteroid is twice as bright as previously thought. (A) twice as bright as => Correct. Here I assume "it was" is understood & hence omitt...

Negative solution -2x<-2 x>2 This is incorrect. This translates into x > 1. (although this doesn't change the outcome, one must be careful :-) ) stmnt 2: As you have said, stmnt 2 translates into (x-7)(x-3) >= 0 "these are boundary points, on a number line." These are indeed boundary cond...

Yes indeed. let's put the probability of selecting both red marbles: {8 / (8+y)}{7/(7+y)} probability of 1 of each color: {8 / (8+y)}{y/(7+y)} what you need to find out in this question is: {8 / (8+y)}{7/(7+y)} > {8 / (8+y)}{y/(7+y)} which means 56 / {(8+y)(7+y)} > 8y / {(8+y)(7+y)} which means 56 >...

Answer must be A. Here's why - std dev = sq rt{summation of (mean - term)^2/no of terms} stmnt 1 tells us that a constant 30% is removed from each tank. This means that the avg reduces by 30%. this would also mean [summation of (mean - term) reduces by 30%. we know std dev from initial conditions, w...

Understood. one last que

x<-8 and x>y contradict each another making this case invalid.
do you mean x <-8 and x >-8 (rather than x >y) contradict here?

Thanks a bunch.

Thanks Frankenstein. I understand the algebra you have posted. but I thought the algebraic solution must have 4 cases. I understand that you have taken cases based on values of x. here's what I did on my scratch paper. Can you please point out what is wrong here and why? Thanks in advance- |x+8| < |...
