Admitted at Wash U Olin
I have been admitted at Washington University in St. Louis, Olin. Very happy and relieved to be in somewhere. Hoping there might be money involved and waiting to see if I'm offered admission anywhere else.
Anyone else in at Olin? I'd be interested in connecting with you.

Academic Probation
I was on academic probation during my Freshmen year. A lot of the applications ask whether a University has ever placed you on probation for any reason. How is this going to affect the process? I have to report it, right?

Automatic Interviews
An acquaintance mentioned to me that he believed certain schools would grant automatic interviews to students with a certain minimum GMAT score. Has anyone heard of this? If so, do you have knowledge of what schools this is true at? Finally, if true, does anyone know the score? I'm curious more than...

Tuck considers the highest score on each section - I think they're one of the few top programs that do this.

Thanks Lisa - I appreciate the help/feedback. I will focus on full-time, even if it's at a school outside the top 10.

I think those programs are open enrollment - you don't apply. You just pay them. It's not an executive mba - just for the learning.

Part-time Programs
As a career changer, I'm interested in going to a full-time MBA program. My perception, however, is that admissions into part-time programs is less competitive. Would a part-time MBA from a school like Booth or Haas have more value than a full-time MBA from a program ranked outside the top 10?

I disagree with your counselor. The quantitative is more important than the verbal - but the verbal is important. The essays are of minimal importance most places. That being said, you can focus most of your study time on the quantitative. You're not going to move the needle a great deal by studying...

I don't think it's a big deal for most schools. I think UCLA averages the scores if you take the test 3 or more times. Most schools do not. A lot of the top schools emphatically don't care. Where are you wanting to go? If you're worried about it - send a question via email to the admissions people a...

Jimmy, If Columbia is where you'd like to be - I'd simply email someone in their admissions department and ask them how they think you should handle it. Admissions people get emails like that all the time. There's also the optional essay - which seems like a logical place to explain why you used a d...

2011-2012 Darden Essay
Have you guys seen it? It looks like a doozy. What really scares me about it is, I'm a lawyer, and it seems like it will be very difficult to put myself in the narrative. It seems more like an English comp prompt than an admissions essay. Any thoughts?

Why don't you email the school and explain your situation? I'm pretty confident they'll tell you it's fine to go with someone else.

Alex - I have a 720 (46 Q, 44 V) - do I need to take the test again? I wasn't planning on it. I do think I could do a little better (high practice test of 49 (twice) - more consistently around a 47 or 48). Several people told me that I'd be alright where I'm at. What do you think? I'm not applying t...
