I do not think that the results are so unrealistic that it can be ignored. Kaplan Verbal are much tougher than GMAT Prep or any other test prep companies verbal. I do not agree with the official answer here... infact the best one is D.
the result - "had sold twice as many copies of movies on tape as all the other stores in town had sold on DVD of the same movies" --- so the relative number of movies won't make any difference.

At a second glance, I don't think it's a modifier issue. At least not to the extent that you could cross it out for that. HOWEVER, there is a definite improvement in clarity/meaning if we put Josephine Baker directly after the opening phrase, for the reasons that have now been stated ad nauseam. :)...
