My approach,
R = (-3,1)
Since y = -x is perpendicular bisector of RS point S will be symmetrical about line y = -x.Thus point S will be (-1,3).
Again Y axis is perpendicular bisector of ST.Thus,T will be symmetrical to S about Y axis.
Thus,
T = (1,3)

Each child has 2 options being a boy or a girl.
So total number of outcomes = 2* 2 * 2 * 2 =16.
Number of ways in which 4 children will have 2 boys and 2 girls = 4!/2!* 2! = 6.
So,
Probability = 6/16 =3/8
QA is A.

The method that i used is:
Probability of choosing Joshua = 1/6
Probability of choosing Jose after Joshua = 1/5
Since both of them are to be present,
Probability = 1/6 * 1/5
Now since Jose could have been chosen first,
Probability = 1/6 * 1/5 + 1/6 * 1/5 = 1/15.

Hi GMATGuru, I beleive we have a formula of dividing (m + n ) people into two groups with m and n people respectively = (m + n)!/(m! * n!) Now,if each of these groups are identical we divide by 2!. So if i apply this formula to the above problem, No of ways = 8!/(2!*2!* 2!*2!*4!) =105. Divided by 4!...

Followed this method:
Total number of outcomes = 12C4 =495
No. of favorable outcomes = 6C4 + 6C3 * 3C1 + 6C2 * 4C2 + 6C1 * 5C3 + 6C4(all 4 males + 3 males and 1 female and so on) =240
Thus,
Probability = 240/495 =16/33.

Fractions that are between 0 and 1 behave like this:
If you square a fraction the value decreases.
Thus,
1/2 * 1/2 = 1/4.
Thus,
s<r.Thus options A,B,E eliminated.
Further if you take the square root,the value of the fraction increases.
Thus option D.
