does it mimick the question prototype that GMAC does? Are the answers correct?

Futility of 4 months of efforts - 640 (Q44, V 33)
Hello Everyone, Took my GMAT last week and was knocked down with a 640 (Q44/V33).Feeling terribly depressed.somehow, a score of 44 in quant is tough to assimilate because i am an engineer.The biggest challenge is, i am not able to figure out what went wrong? I seek advice from all of you and experts...

Indeed the correct answer is B
in order to determine the length of DE, the only way is to figure out whether DE is parallel AC.
option 1 doesnt reveal this.
option 2 gives us the answer.
just for info , if DE//AC and AB:AD =m:n
Then,
AC = m/(m+n) DE
