Thanks Mitch!

Although this concept is now clear to me, I have started to have doubts regarding what else have I been messing up by just solving equations and not applying these verification techniques...sigh!

ploting ranges

i am having trouble understanding a concept in number line. If we are given the equation n^2-n-2<0 we can solve it to (n+1)(n-2)<0 this should give us n<-1 or n<2. but this is not correct. The correct limits we should get to are n>-1 or n<2. The first set of solutions is obviously wrong because plug...

So why is D wrong again... even the explanation given would suggest that D should be the answer. D: If the accelerators can be used for multiple experiments, then it is reasonable to expect more articles related to them, not fewer. journalists argument depends on availability ..we just proved that a...

Guys,

I am resurrecting this thread. Can one of the experts please provide explanation why C is the correct answer rather than explaining that the other 4 are not. I mean, I would like to get to C without using process of elimination, something that I am finding hard to do at the moment.

I have given more points to discuss on the 2 problems in order to improve my understanding. I am still worried that if I saw a similar question on the GMAT, I won't able to make navigate the tricky choices.

Getafix, I think you reasoning is very close to what it should be. You are correct about no 2. E is a problem with the government method does not provide additional information to 'validate' the contention... For no 1. re read option C. C is not restating the conclusion.. but providing support for t...

2 similar CR problems... why is the second best answer wrng

So I have come across 2 problems that in my opinion are very similar and I got both of them wrong. I am having a bit of difficulty making that leap from the very apparent second best choice ( also the trap) to the correct answer. I think they are both strengthen questions... so outside info is OK. S...

DS Official Quant review ... not sure of answer

If xy > o, does (x-1)(y-1) = 1? 1. x+y = xy 2. x = y OA says 2 is not sufficient but I think I disagree. (y-1)(y-1) = 1 y^2 - 2y +1 = 1 Y^2-2y = 0. y(y-2) = 0. yes we have 2 answer , y =0 or 2... BUT plugging back into equation we get (0-1)(0-1) =1 and (2-1)(2-1) =1. Thus B is sufficient. BTW.. this...

so maybe it was because i had done too many probability problems that day, but i think that method sort of still makes sense. to answer the question as to why i multiplied by 6C4, it is because when I calculated 1/30 , that was the probability of one possible arrangement of of 4 baguettes(B) and 2 n...

Guys, I know the answer is D and I chose it too. But my purpose of asking this question is to understand more about causality than to specifically answer answer this questions. If possible, please try to find a flaw in the argument : If A then B but also, if C then B Thus we have weakened the origin...
