In this sentence, "they" is correctly referring to animals. We can use both "they" and "them" to refer to plural animals. You're right to be suspicious of pronouns when it comes to animals, though, since we would not use pronouns such as "who" and "whom&q...

Hi Vincen, We wouldn't use "if" in this way on the GMAT. "If" = a hypothetical situation For example, "If I were the Queen of the Universe, everyone would get Fridays off." If the Meaning is a choice between two things, "whether" conveys that idea. The Meaning...

Hi guys, Working on a new batch of challenging questions, and curious to hear some thoughts about this one! The elaborate Christmas-themed cake that won the challenge in The Great British Bake Off, a popular British reality cooking competition, was, unusually, trapezoidal in design, its layers caref...

Hi, Great question! Pronouns require antecedents, so you are absolutely correct that in (E), we have no antecedent for "they." Who are "they"? We have no idea. The other major error in (E) is the incorrect addition of the comma before the preposition "from." The GMAT do...

Factorials and Divisibility question
Worked on this problem today with a student, and thought it would be a fun one to share. It's amazing how something like a (!) point symbol can throw us all for a loop, when really we're just looking at a very simple divisibility question. :-) Enjoy! Which of the following is an integer? I. 10! / 3!...

Regarding "that which," the GMAT certainly uses that construction. Check out this Verbal Official Guide RC question: "The author implies that which of the following was true of most feminist thinkers in England and the United States after 1920?" You're correct to start by focusin...

Hey joealam1! With Weaken questions, we need some flexibility with the answer choices, since there are several ways to weaken an argument: -Provide an explanation -Prove the assumption is wrong -Undermine a piece of evidence I find the easiest "default" for a Weaken prediction is to identi...

Hey Joe, So, in order to get RC questions correct, we need to understand what the question-type is, and what kind of expectation that sets up for the correct answer. Here, the phrase "according to the passage" tells us this is a Detail question. Detail questions are essentially "resea...

Do NOT use apps to study for the GMAT. They will not suffice. If you're spending 10-15 minutes on a GMAT app while waiting for the bus, in between classes, etc. then that's great, but your actual serious study time needs to be spent with official material and high-quality practice tests, using books...

Definitely those versions are fine. Just make sure you get the Official Guide that aligns with your 5th edition MGMAT books, either the 13th or the 15th edition. Don't buy the 2016 version.
You might also want to consider Powerscore's CR book: http://amzn.to/20Yvghm
It's pretty stellar.

What is the origin of this question? It does not feel very "GMAT-like" to me, because there is ambiguity in the given information. "$x plus $z each person greater than 20" could be interpreted to mean "20(x + z)" or "x + 20z." Here's how to set up the problem ...
