another way of looking at this is: 12!/(7!.5!) is 12C5 i.e. no. of different ways of picking 5items from a set of 12. Obviously that can't be a non-integer...

I think the answer should be C.

10 GCD => X/10, Y/10 will be that part of X, Y which are uncommon between the two. This means if we multiply these two with 10, that would give me LCM.

i.e. X*Y/10 = 180 or X.Y=1800.

good one samir. alternatively if you solve x+1/x-3 <0, you will get -1<x<3 1's equation's solution means x should fall in between [-1,1], therefore it satisfies. 2 equation's solution means x should fall in between [-2,2], and that range doesn't fall in the solution range of the given equation. Henc...

well the OA is 7/16. I was approaching this problem pretty much in the same way as Samir did (though I do think that is not appropriate as B can arrive within one min. of A's arrival). Anyways, considering two hours as 120 minutes Total possible ways: 120*120 120 mins can be divided in 3 logical par...

suyog: slight mistake in understand the question i think.

3t perimeter of triangle => area = root(3)*(t^2)/4
4s perimeter of square => area = s^2

since areas are equal as per the problem, t:s = 2/(3)^.25

gmatrant,

your approach is absolutely okay. just that you forgot to count (0,30) as a possible positive integral solution to the problem y = -(3/5)x+ 30

there is a straight-forward calc to such problems using binomial distribution: If p and q are probs. of two outcomes A,B of an event, and this event is repeated n times, then prob. of happening of A (and non-happening of B on such occassions) at exactly 'r' occassions can be represented as: (nCr)*(p...

think of this as an arrangement problem - 1. digits that can be used 1-9. 2. no. of ways in which you can pick up a digit = 9, correspondingly you can pick up second digit to be used in number formation in 9 ways. ie. total ways= 9.8 3. for each way, there can be three 3-digit numbers. (for ex. if t...

The trick is in understanding that this game may never end. The probability of B winning will be summation of probs. associated winning in the first run, second run, third run and so and so forth. P(B)1st run = (3/4)*1/4 = 3/16 P(B)2nd run = [No result in 1st run]* (3/16) = [9/16]*3/16 P(B)3rd run =...
