Notification Date

by mappleby285 » Mon Oct 03, 2011 9:35 am
So is the notification date for most school a notify ON or notify BY date? I applied Round 1 to Harvard, Wharton and Columbia. I'm just curious if it is possible to hear back early from schools. I also noticed that Columbia really only has a deadline for ED not regular decision. Any thoughts on how long it would take to hear back from them since there isn't a notify by date?

I'm a little more concerned if I apply early in Round 2 to any schools. Working on my application for Kellogg right not and might apply to Tuck as well. However in mid-January I have to commit to either work until 2014 or go to school the summer of 2012. That's perfect if I get accepted at 1 of the 3 I just applied to but if it comes down to the second round most of those notification dates are too late. Is there any chance if I applied in the next few weeks (well early for round 2) I could hear back early?

It's usually a BY date. So you COULD hear back early, but you can;t count on it. Candidates will often get contacted earlier. Although don't assume it means anything. It could be good news or bad news.

As for Columbia, there's only one way to find out: Ask them :)
