Birch trees (Knewton Prep)

by RadiumBall » Sat Apr 30, 2011 8:57 pm
The neighborhood association planted 108 new trees last year. How many of those were birch trees?

1.Of all the trees in the neighborhood, 34 percent were birch trees at the end of last year.
2.There were a total of 488 birch trees in the neighborhood at the end of last year.

IMO E

"Neighborhood association planted" --- *catch point* 108 trees (Could be a HIT or Flop point :))

Let Brich trees planted by association be x.

1. Says about all the tree in the Neighborhood( including 108 trees) - Insufficient.
2. Says about Birch trees in the neighborhood and NOT Brich trees planted by the association - Insufficient.

Combining st 1 and 2 gives us no information about those birch trees that were planted by the association.
So E
