Cezanne's art inspired the next generation of artists, twentieth-century modernist creators of abstract art. While most experts rank Cezanne as an early modernist, a small few reject this idea. Francoise Cachin, for example, bluntly states that such an ascription is "overplayed", and says that Cezanne's work is "too often observed from a modern point of view".

Which one of the following statements is most strongly supported by the information above?

A. Cezanne's work is highly controversial.
B. Cezanne was an early creator of abstract art.
C. Cezanne's work helped to develop modernism.
D. Modern art owes less to Cezanne than many experts believe.
E. Cezanne's work tends to be misinterpreted as modernist.

the OA stated is C
my question is if the answer is C then aren't we downplaying the observation of Francoise Cachin.i mean who knows he might be one big stalwart of modern art and that he might have known more about modern art than "most other experts"
i somehow at looked this problem from weighted average concept .the "total weight" of Francoise Cachin's observation might weigh more than the "total weight" of obsevation of "most other experts"
analogically speaking ,let say, consider a situation where a particular problem of gmat is under discussion and many experts are contending that that problem is faulty and then suddenly a very experienced instructor weighs in and guides all the rest that the problem is not actually faulty but is a fine example of a new concept .

my contention is C is missing this point . the best answer ,as per me , wud have been :Cezanne's work is slightly controversial.but unfortunately its not there.
instructors plz help
thanks and regards

E. Cézanne's work tends to be misinterpreted as modernist.
Most experts believe that Cézanne himself was a modernist; a few disagree.
But no one disputes the following: Cézanne's art inspired the next generation of...modernist creators of abstract art.
This statement supports answer choice C: Cézanne's work helped to develop modernism.

The correct answer is C.

Hey Aditya,

Mitch is absolutely right here. The first sentence isn't ascribed to anyone in particular, so we more or less have to take it as fact. That's enough right there to get to answer choice (C), which is good, because the other stuff seems slightly more contentious (though again, we still have "most experts" versus the rest of them).

Hope that helps!
