Pursuing MBA at age 36 ?

by essen_1976 » Wed May 15, 2013 8:59 am
I want to know how B-schools react to the age factor for professionally experienced people who want to pursue MBA and change domains. Is 36 too old or does the age not matter at all if you have other factors like solid GPA, GMAT score, sound domain knowledge, etc. going in your favor ?

Don't let age deter you. I had plenty of people in my mba class in that age range. If it is what you want, go for it...

It is not completely impossible to get admission in a decent school for Full time MBA with your age. But, but, there are only very few schools who will dare to admit you. The reason is simple, they are not very confident to place you. In reality, only a very few decent schools actually admits aged people (35+). 30-35 is still doable in quite a few good schools but after that your school options are very limited. Some school will flatly tell you that their average class age is 28, some will indirectly encourage you to join executive/fellow and some will not tell you anything.

Executive MBA, part time MBA, fellow programme, blah blah should not be an issue.

But the question you need to ask yourself is why MBA? what you planned to achieve and how so and so school/programme will help you in achieving that?
