My brain is not working...

x + 3 < n - 1

How do you turn the above equation into x+n<2n-4 ???

I did the following.
x-n < -4
-1(x-n) > (-4)-1
n-x > 4

Am I missing something extremely obvious? This seems too easy to get stumped on.

x+3 < n -1
subtract 3 both sides
x < n-4
add n both sides
x+n < n+n -4
=> x+n < 2n -4
Thanks

you are given inequality not equation, x + 3 < n - 1 could be rewritten as x < n - 4 OR x + n < n+n - 4 which is equivalent to x + n < 2n - 4
