Hi,
I just gave my GMAT yesterday and I want to have a realistic assessment of my chances into a top 5 school ( i am not looking beyond that).
My profile
GMAT 730 - 96% ( verbal 40 ,89 % Quant 49 , 89% )
Undergraduate Education: B.Tech ,Computer Sc , IIT Kharagpur , India ( the best set of engg school in india) GPA : 8.5/10 I dont know how to convert.
Masters on Dean's fellowship : M.S. Computer University of California, Irvine GPA 3.9/4.0 Did my MS in 10 mnths ( 2005-2006)
Work Experience : 5 and half yrs , currently. Currently a senior computer engg in a reputed bay area tech firm, working for past 3 yrs in the same company.
Academically, had other good career achievements like Maths Olympiads, patents , papers etc if they matter.
Extra -curricular activities : Had been very active in undergard and grad days. Department society president in undergrad responsible for conducting various events and other organizational roles.
NSS ( 2 yrs ).
Currently manage a small team under me though mostly technical and do customer visits for office works.
I want to remain in technical field and technical companies after MBA but most likely be on business and product management sides. I know my pool is common but with my academic record and clear vision to remain in the same broad field I am in, I hope it can help.
What are the realistic chances of mine in getting into top 5. What are the things i need to do more , I have the option of applying 2010 or 2011.
If you can give a in-depth analysis, It will really help me in choosing universities ( can you suggest me the best univs suited for my profile other than standard top 5) . Also any suggestion on things I can do to bolster my chances will really help.
Thanks
Profile Evalution for top 5 b-schools

Hi Hiro,
Thanks for your post!
You have good credentials and are likely competitive for a top MBA program. As you know, its hard to gauge your candidacy based on profile/stats, as much of the decision is based on your essays, LORs, interview. That said - here is my feedback.
Unfortunately you are in one of the most competitive applicant pools - Indian IT applicants. The challenge for you is to think how you can differentiate yourself from the 1000s of applicants with similar profiles and stats
Good luck!
NP
