Hi all,
I am planning for my GMAT in few months and would like your expert help for an assessment of my profile which is here in brief.
12th - 80% (CBSE, Mumbai University) - Science Stream
Bachelors - Engineering (Mumbai University) - First Class
MBA - Mid tier UK Univ right immediately after Engineering (Marketing & Sales)
Work Ex - 9yrs with multiple Oil & Gas service co's, incl NYSE listers. 4 of the 9 yrs in a regional sales remit across Singapore and Malaysia - twice promoted. MM$ Sales profiles held.
Currently on a personal/family sabbatical (married with kids)...aiming to spend good time to get a top admit.
GMAT - Mid August, aiming at 700+ (first attempt in 2003 was a 680)
Future interests - to stay in oil & gas sector but if possible move from a Service provider to a Major Oil Company (Shell, Total, Chevron's, BP, Aramco etc...) etc in their Strategy Planning &/or Economic Projects Groups.
Shift - Functional Shift from Sales by learning Asset Strategy, Planning and Project Financing Skills.
What i want to get from my MBA (honest / in hope)-
1. Self brand recognition (top 10-15 B-schools only) - 1 or 2 yr programs Masters
2. Learn Strategy, leadership & Finance Skills
3. Opportunity to connect with right C-level leaders across my target companies / markets, using the alumni network, references, on-site career teams etc...
4. I will do what it takes and do not expect miracles - but I also now know all my target companies do hire from top Uni's for similar roles, example BP from LBS.
Pls do contact me freely (or reply to this note and I will email back asap) if you feel my profile is worth your time and efforts (aiming only at top schools) - thanks.
Cheers,
Ron

Mumbai University is an excellent school. Much depends on your GMAT score. Your international work experience and non-IT background differentiates you as well. With a 700+ you should be competitive for the top 8-15 and could potentially stretch into schools even more competitive.
Best of luck,

Hi Ronnie,
You have good profile with solid and diverse work experience along with international exposure which will definately increse your chances for top B-Schools. However you should also focus on getting 700+ GMAT and I can see you are closer to that (scored 680). If you are targeting top schools only, then better strategy would be to apply in early rounds and start your preparation for applications along with your GMAT prep. This will give you more time to dedicate for your applications. Let me know in case you need any further assistance. To assess your Chances for Top B-schools visit https://goo.gl/RTq3pr

Thanks Michael, Manish,
I have set Aug 5th as my date for GMAT and booked my seat in. Lets hope for the best and hopefully I should be able to apply for all the first rounders by early Sept.
Indeed my aim apart from ISB is to apply for some top universities after getting my GMAT scores in.
Have a good day.
