Hey,

You will need ''that'' for your connection since they are refering to an example, which leaves us with A, B, or C.

C - tense is wrong- there WAS an elephant GIVING is wrong. should be GAVE

B- tense is wrong- GIVING rides to children and HAD been earning is wrong. GIVING RIDES and EARNING is proper. Also, The comma set up is wrong as the first word after the comma should refer back to the elephant.

A- correct. GAVE rides and WAS earning is proper english.

DE: The elephant is not the example so the elephant in incorrect start.
B: had is wrong because there she earning and elephant earning were happening at the same time. Past perfect (and PP continuous) requires one action to finish before second starts.
C: there was an elephant.... lot of redundancy
