Help Required - GMAT 760

by catabell2010 » Wed Jul 10, 2013 6:37 am
Hi,

I have come across few of the posts where you have helped candidate like me who are having self doubt.
I haven't given my GMAT yet, but I am scheduled to give it on 13th August 2013.
I am constantly hitting a score of 750-770 in my mocks and believe could score around 760.

Now coming to my profile:
I am an Indian male candidate , 25 years
old having 26 month of experience as of now, which would be around 38
month till the time I start my MBA.
I have done my graduation in 2011 from a top NIT in Computer Science (top 15 in Country) with a CGPA of 7.23/10 which is decent as per my college standards.
Also I could defend my low CGPA as it declined in last 1.5 yrs when me and my friends were trying our hands on entrepreneurship
SSC 90.2%, HSC-85.4% .

Work Exp:
13 months as Software Developer in R&D team in Software Company ( 4th Largest
S/w company)

13 months as Deputy Manager in Retail Bank ( Largest Pvt Bank in India)-CRM Project Team NON IT Role
Worked as Project Manager for CRM system Migration for the whole bank

Hands on experience with a startup- started in college days.

Post MBA Plans : Start a company based on technology and finance( my two favorite stream) bringing trading / stock market news to every household .
This model would work really well in country like India, where most of the general population are still not aware about debt /mutual funds/stock market etc..

In later stage become a venture capitalist, helping start-ups not only with funding but expertise.

Now I know my profile is not outstanding but I believed that If I stretch my score around 770 and have decent essays and application I have a short at top 20. With that thing in mind I contacted few famous consultant in India as well as US, but have become more disappointed as most of them have asked me to target colleges from 35-50. It feels that from start only they are sure that top 30 is out of reach.
Currently I am more or less planning to go without any consultant as I have become more worried after talking to them , than before I was.

Since I have seen you honestly replying to many male Indian candidate and helping them.
I just want to ask do you agree with the rest of the consultants.

Regards

Hey there good sir,
I'd say your auto evaluation is pretty spot on. Top 20 would definitely be in the running if you can hit that target GMAT score and even Top 10 (outside the Top 3)... also depends a bit on other "extras" you have or don't have in your profile.

Right now your biggest weakness is your work experience, and if you are serious about the MBA, I'd urge you to work for another year and apply then. First, you are on the very low side of work experience, second if you haven't taken the GMAT yet, it means you won't be applying R1... so really two SOLID GOLD reasons to apply only next year...

With your GMAT in hand already you can get started in June and do a LOT of applications by R1 which will ONLY be to your benefit (one of the things to keep in mind as an Indian Male candidate, is given the huge size of the pool, and it's competitiveness, and the perceived similarities between many profiles, one of the best favors you can do yourself is apply to A LOT of schools)....

So, dude... I hope this makes sense, and I hope you agree...

Good luck on that GMAT! I really do hope you can pull that 760! It'll make a world of difference.
