At the core, business schools want leaders. They are looking for people who have been exposed to challenging situations and exceeded expectations. Part of the reason some of the larger companies are preferred is because the schools know what they are getting if someone succeeds in that environment.

Well there for sure are preferred industries, and preferred companies, and basically it works on exclusivity and prestige. So pure number one employer for B-School - McKinsey. Good government job, military leadership and PE come a close second. Traditional industries such as Consulting and IB are very strong too.
This does NOT mean that if you work in something else, you can't get in! Of course not! And your own personal experience and progress counts for a lot too!
