Dr A

14. Dr. A: The new influenza vaccine is useless at best and possibly dangerous. I would never use it on a patient.
Dr. B: But three studies published in the Journal of Medical Associates have rated that vaccine as unusually effective.
Dr. A: The studies must have been faulty because the vaccine is worthless.
In which of the following is the reasoning most similar to that of Dr. A?

(A) Three of my patients have been harmed by that vaccine during the past three weeks, so the vaccine is unsafe.
(B) Jerrold Jersey recommends this milk, and I don’t trust Jerrold Jersey, so I won’t buy this milk.
(C) Wingzz tennis balls perform best because they are far more effective than any other tennis balls.
(D) I’m buying Vim Vitamins. Doctors recommend them more often than they recommend any other vitamins, so Vim Vitamins must be good.
(E) Since University of Muldoon graduates score about 20 percent higher than average on the GMAT, Sheila Lee, a University of Muldoon graduate, will score about 20 percent higher than average when she takes the GMAT.

B.

Dr. A gives no good reasoning for his argument. He doesn't back his conclusion by any substantial evidence. His argument is based on opinions. Same applies to answer choice B.

I would go with B,
However, this is tough one and difficult to treat.
Who know the way to treat?
Please share your idea and your reasoning :D

DR A: X is 'not good' because it is 'not good'

Option C : Y tennis balls are "good" because they are "good"

Both are stating the same thing again!!

I hope this thing helps..

thx.

Hi Raunekk,
Is there any specific book that you are referring. I have gone through some of the posts and your replies and I seem to find them very logical and easy to understand. Is there a book/website/notes that explains CR reasoning logically and in simplified way? I will really appreciate if you can provide some inputs.

Thanks in advance!

hi ildude02,

"Circular reasoning "is the term they use for one of the types of fallacies ,in CR bible.

In this the the proposition is used to prove itself.

For eg,
"Whatever John said in the testimony is the truth because he has sworn to speak the truth"

You can see here that no evidence is provided to justify the conclusion.

John's oath to speak the truth is used to prove that he speaks the truth.

I hope this helps..

Thanks.
