simple algebra question

Can x<x²be simplified to 1<x ? (by multiplying each side by 1/x)

It can be, if it is given that x is a positive integer.

Example: If x = -2, then -2 < (-2)² or -2 < 4 is true but 1 < -2 does not hold true.
