I think the answer is B.

The pronoun IT is required to refer back to the chalice, and without the pronoun, to me it sounds awkward.

^Without the pronoun, the sentence sounds like the chalice itself is avoiding being stolen.

IMO - B

Explanation - keep, avoid, prevent are all transitive verbs
