jet engine

by daretodream » Sun Feb 14, 2010 10:57 pm
After more than four decades of research and development, a new type of jet engine is being tested that could eventually propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or help boost cargoes into space at significantly lower costs than current methods permit.

A. tested that could eventually propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or help

B. tested that could eventually have the capability of propelling aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or to help

C. tested, eventually able to propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours, or helping

D. tested, and it eventually could propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours, or helping

E. tested, and it could eventually have the capability to propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or help

A. tested that could eventually propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or help - Correct (it is clear n concise)

B. tested that could eventually have the capability of propelling aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or to help - Parallelism Error

C. tested, eventually able to propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours, or helping - Parallelism Error

D. tested, and it eventually could propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours, or helping- should be 'help' - Parallelism Error

E. tested, and it could eventually have the capability to propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or help- Idiom Error - Should be 'capability in propelling'

A. tested that could eventually propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or help

B. tested that could eventually have the capability of propelling aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or to help - propelling.. help not parallel . ELIMINATE

C. tested, eventually able to propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours, or helping ... to propel .. helping not parallel. ELIMINATE

D. tested, and it eventually could propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours, or helping - to propel .. helping not parallel. ELIMINATE

E. tested, and it could eventually have the capability to propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or help

IMO A.
A. tested that could eventually propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or help -correct.
"that could propel" and "(that could) help" are parallel.

B. tested that could eventually have the capability of propelling aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or to help -use of "capability" with "could / can " is redundant

C. tested, eventually able to propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours, or helping -
"to propel" and "helping" are not parallel

D. tested, and it eventually could propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or helping -
"could propel" and "helping" are not parallel

E. tested, and it could eventually have the capability to propel aircraft anywhere in the world within two hours or help -use of "capability" with "could / can" is redundant

chose E :)

just to add something here.... after finding out "possible" errors, just think: " does your " The One" makes sense ? "

eventually propel aircraft anywhere

that could eventually propel???? huh

what author wants to convey, should always be kept in mind !

and regarding the idiomatic usage of capability, here's a link which will help you :
