x is m percent of y

Implies, x = (m/100)*y

X: 50
Y: 100

For the above values of X and Y, m should equal 50 & not 0.5.

To solve y is what percent of x, equation will be:

(Y/X)*100 = (100/50)*100

Replace 50 in above equation by M, (100/m)*100 = 10000/m

Another way of "prooving" it to yourself:

x = (m/100)y
thus,
y = (100/m)x

To make it (say n) a percentage it needs to be over a 100 i.e. n/100

So: times by 100/100

(100/100)y = (100/m)(100/100)x
y = (10000/m)/100x

i.e. (10000/m)
