No extracurricular activities

by kul512 » Fri Mar 29, 2013 8:33 pm
Dear Sameer sir,
I am writing this post after too much of thinking. From the time I started my GMAT preparation i had a doubt in my mind, whether my profile is worth applying to any good B-school. Reason fot this confusion- I have very little or no extracurricular activities. Now my profile-

10th 77% (U.P. Board)
12th 78% (U.P. Board)
B.Tech 9.32 out of 10
(1st position in my department in 1st year, 2nd postion in my department in 2nd year)
GMAT 740 (Jun2 2012)
4.5 Years of work-exp. in Oil company as a shift-engineer, handling power plant. (Largest Oil PSU of India)

But to be true i have no big achievemnts in any other field. I mean i am not sportsman, I am not a photographer. My job too is not of much manegerial type.
Sir,
Whenever i start to work on my application procedure, I always think that there is nothing which will make my appliation stand out. I need help. what should i do?
Sometimes there is very fine line between right and wrong: perspective.

You can still get into a very good MBA program without extra curricular activities (even if it is better when you have some). First of all: it's not too late to start. Second: It's important that you take what you DO have (and you may have more than you think) and make the most of it.

Hi

Majority of applicants would have their strength and weakness area and your success depends upon how smartly you showcase yourself.
We personally know and helped some students of your profile. We understand that showing achievements in capacity of plant maintenance role is difficult; however you must be handling critical tasks which may have strong bearing on front business.
Extra curricular activities definitely help in application; however management colleges do not shut door for people who do not play any game and have not taken part in debates or organized a tech fest.
B-Schools look for positive traits (by asking you to share EC activities) and it can be done in other ways as well. You need to start thinking on those line.
You have a good GMAT score and we would like to help you think through this journey. Do call/PM to discuss further.
