Should I Retake

by nans » Thu Jul 03, 2008 7:20 am
Dear members,

My first post ever.

I have been a reader of the forum for the past 4 months when I was prepairing for the exam. I gave the GMAT yesterday and ended with 620 (Q36, V39). This is of course a disappointing score as the schools I target need 700+.

It is difficult to assess for me to know what went wrong - perhaps nerves. The two GMAT Prep that I gave, scored 690 and 700.

My maths is weak., I knew that from the beginning so worked hard on it. I did OG (twice), Kaplan Premier and KAP 800. While I did well when it comes to solving the problems in the books - on the tests I invariably got 12-14 questions wrong for number of reasons.Maths is what took me in on the test day.

Please let me know of yout opinion on whether I shud give the exam again. I can have a month from now to give the exam. What can I do to score well on Maths???

Thanks.

I suggest doing the gmac CAT prep tests. You can download them once you register to take the test. GMAC also has specific quantatative tests that you can purchase for $25. If math is you weakness, then you need to spend more time doing the CAT prep quant.

thanks

Man

that is exactly my score, same v and q, gave it last week.

Re-taking it on July 28.

Advice-Do the Gmat Fcous. Very similar to the real hard gmat questions, Each focus will hit a diff area of quant. I did 4 and really helped me.
Will do four more.

I am getting a tutor-the way she described me problem is not solving the q, but on how to break down each question and attack it. Some people need to have their brains rewired for gmat. So will see how it goes.

Do OG again so that one can solve each question immedidately without having to think. The whole OG should be as simple as 1+1.

Review verbal again.

Anyways, good luck to us both in our quest for 700+.

Good Luck Nans!

I got the same score and Math is also my weak point eventhough I work in Finance : )

Like others have said, the GMAT is not a test of your intelligence, but rather your skills in taking this one test. I also took the GMAT quant tests, but it did not significantly help so I think I'm going to go back and work on the fundamentals over the next 6 weeks and give it one last try.

All the best!
